Terms of use

These terms are an agreement between you and LEL LLC, 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801-6317, United States ("we" or "us"), for the Tengo apps and this website. By creating an account or using Tengo you accept them. Please also read the privacy notice, which explains how we handle your data.

Your account

  • You must be 16 or older to create an account.
  • Give a name and an email address you control, and keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens in your account. Tell us at support@tengoai.app if you think someone else has used it.
  • You can use Tengo on one device without an account. That food stays on the device and isn't backed up.

Kitchens

  • A kitchen is shared by the people in it. Admins invite and remove members and choose their roles: editors can add and change shared food, viewers can only look.
  • Only invite people who have agreed to join. Anything shared in a kitchen is visible to its members. Anything you mark as private stays private to you.
  • When you leave a kitchen, the food you shared stays with it.

Food information and safety

Tengo helps you keep track of food. It does not tell you whether food is safe to eat.

  • Dates, amounts, prices and allergens are only as accurate as what you, other members or a label provide. When Tengo doesn't know something, it says it is unknown.
  • Reminders, "use first" hints, recipe suggestions and meal plans are suggestions only. Recipes and suggestions leave out the allergens you told us about, but we can't promise a meal is safe for an allergy or a diet. Always check the packaging and use your own judgement, and follow official recall notices.
  • Never rely on Tengo when a mistake could harm someone's health.

AI reading

  • AI reading of photos and text is optional, and only runs after you agree to it in the app.
  • The AI only suggests. Suggestions can be wrong or incomplete. Nothing is added or changed until you check it and confirm it, and you are responsible for what you confirm.
  • AI reading uses AI units from your kitchen's monthly allowance, shown in the app. Failed or cancelled work gives its units back.
  • You can report a problem with any suggestion in the app.

Tengo Plus

Tengo is free to use. Tengo Plus is an optional subscription for a whole kitchen that adds more AI units each month.

  • Billing. Plus is sold through the App Store or Google Play, by monthly or yearly subscription, at the price shown before you buy. Payment is taken by Apple or Google from your store account.
  • Automatic renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Free trials. If a free trial is offered, it turns into a paid subscription when it ends unless you cancel before then. We email the purchaser 2 days before it ends.
  • Cancelling. Cancel in your App Store account settings or in Google Play › Payments and subscriptions. You keep Plus until the end of the period you have paid for. Deleting your Tengo account does not cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds. Refunds, and your right of withdrawal where your law gives one, are handled by Apple or Google under their rules. Ask them.
  • Price changes. Apple and Google tell you about a price change before it applies, and ask for your agreement where their rules or your law require it.
  • What stays free. Keeping track of food, sharing a kitchen, shopping lists, date reminders, barcodes and exporting your data stay free, including after a subscription ends.

Using Tengo fairly

Don't use Tengo to break the law, to harm or harass anyone, or to store content you have no right to share. Don't try to get into accounts or kitchens that aren't yours, overload or probe our systems, get round limits such as AI units, or copy the service. We may limit or suspend an account that does these things, and will tell you why unless the law or safety stops us.

Your content and ours

  • What you put into Tengo stays yours. You allow us to store, process and show it only to run Tengo for you and the people you share it with.
  • Tengo itself, its design and its software belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the apps for your own household.
  • If you downloaded Tengo from the App Store, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the app. Apple is not responsible for Tengo or for supporting it.

Changes to Tengo and to these terms

We improve Tengo over time and may change or stop features. We won't take away the free features listed above from existing users. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using Tengo and delete your account.

Ending

You can stop using Tengo and delete your account at any time, in the app under Settings › Delete account or as described on Delete your Tengo account. We may end your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, and will give notice where we can. What happens to your data is explained in the privacy notice.

Liability

  • We work to keep Tengo available and correct, but we provide it as it is and can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
  • We aren't responsible for losses caused by relying on dates, suggestions or AI readings without checking them, or by events beyond our reasonable control.
  • To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Tengo Plus in the 12 months before the claim.
  • Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for intent or gross negligence, and nothing affects your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the country where LEL LLC is registered. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in its courts. Please write to us first; most problems can be sorted out quickly.
